Bashir Ahmad Announces Prayer Gathering to Mark One Year Since Buhari's Death
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has announced a prayer and remembrance gathering to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday, Ahmad said the event would take place on Monday, July 13, to honour Buhari's life, legacy and years of service to Nigeria.
"On Monday, July 13, we will gather in solemn remembrance to honour the life, legacy and enduring service of our late boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, one year after his passing," Ahmad wrote.
He described the late president as a leader who served Nigeria with commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism, adding that his contributions to national development would remain an important part of the country's history.
According to Ahmad, family members, friends, former associates and Nigerians from different walks of life will come together in prayer and reflection, asking Allah to forgive Buhari's shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and continue to comfort his family and the nation.
Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in a London clinic after a prolonged illness. His remains were later returned to Nigeria, where he was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
He served as Nigeria's democratically elected president from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, becoming the first opposition candidate in the country's history to defeat an incumbent president after winning the 2015 presidential election. He was re-elected in 2019 and completed his second term in 2023.
The remembrance gathering is expected to bring together family members, former aides, political associates and supporters to reflect on Buhari's leadership, legacy and contributions to Nigeria's political history one year after his passing.
