A joint security operation in Anambra State has reportedly left six suspected members of an armed secessionist group and one security operative dead following a gun battle in Ogbaru Local Government Area. Another operative was injured after an explosive device allegedly planted in the area detonated during the operation. According to the Anambra State Police Command, the raid involved the Rapid Response Squad, DSS, military and naval personnel, as well as local security operatives. Acting on intelligence, the team reportedly trekked for several hours through difficult terrain and dense forest before locating the suspected criminal camps. A prolonged exchange of gunfire followed after the operatives came under attack. Security personnel recovered two pump-action guns and charms, while camps and structures allegedly linked to the group were dismantled. The injured operative is receiving medical treatment, while the state police commissioner commended the personnel involved and extended condolences to the family of the fallen operative. Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
