Nigerian Afrobeats star BNXN has stirred debate on social media after claiming that living in Lagos is more expensive than residing in Los Angeles
Despite the latter being one of the most expensive cities in the United States. The singer, whose real name is Daniel Benson, made the remark during a recent TikTok livestream while reflecting on his experience since relocating to the US. According to BNXN, life abroad feels more organised and less financially demanding in certain respects, particularly because people rarely face the kind of daily pressures common in Lagos. The music star said one of the things that surprised him after moving to the United States was that strangers do not constantly approach him for financial assistance. While acknowledging that people also face economic challenges in America, he maintained that the overall cost of living in Lagos remains higher in many areas. Comparing the two cities, BNXN argued that aside from accommodation, most everyday expenses in Los Angeles are relatively manageable. He revealed that he currently pays about $12,000 monthly in rent but noted that once major bills are settled, there are fewer unexpected financial demands. His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users agreeing that Lagos has become increasingly expensive, while others questioned the comparison between Nigeria's commercial capital and one of America's largest cities. The discussion adds to the growing conversation around the rising cost of living in Lagos, a concern that continues to affect residents and businesses alike.
