The member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Prof. Lilian Oby Orogbu, has distributed empowerment items and awarded second-year scholarship fees to 34 students from the constituency.
The event, held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Finotel Hotels, Awka, attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders, youths, women and other constituents from across Awka North and South.
The Special Guest of Honour, Mr. Peter Obi, commended Prof. Orogbu for what he described as people-oriented representation, noting that empowerment initiatives could improve livelihoods, reduce poverty and address pressing socio-economic challenges.
Obi also commended Orogbu’s legislative performance and urged constituents to support her bid for a second term. He said her return to the National Assembly could enable her to become a ranking member and occupy strategic positions capable of attracting greater development to the constituency and Anambra State.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of second-year scholarship fees to 34 students, with one beneficiary drawn from each ward in the constituency. The scholarship scheme is designed to support beneficiaries from their first year through to graduation.
Obi personally presented the scholarship awards after inspecting the empowerment materials provided for beneficiaries. The items included cars, shuttle buses, tricycles, deep freezers, refrigerators, sewing machines, generators, grinding machines, bags of rice and cash support.
The programme highlighted initiatives focused on education, economic empowerment and support for constituents across Awka North and South.
