The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, identified as Ifechukwu Okechukwu, for allegedly killing his girlfriend and secretly burying her in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was part of ongoing investigations into separate criminal incidents that recently drew public attention on social media and prompted reports from concerned residents. Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command acted on credible information provided by members of the public, leading to the suspect's arrest. According to him, police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have taken over the case and commenced a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of the 23-year-old woman. Ikenga noted that the command had monitored reports and videos circulating online concerning the alleged exhumation of a corpse in Nkpor, which formed part of the information now under investigation. In a separate incident, the police also arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu. The suspects were identified as Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40; Chisom Chukwuyere, 30; and Arum Goodluck, 16. Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the child sustained multiple injuries during the alleged abuse. During questioning, one of the suspects, Mrs Chisom Chukwuyere, reportedly admitted to using melted plastic to inflict burns on the victim. Authorities disclosed that the child has since received necessary medical attention and support, while investigators continue to gather evidence for possible prosecution. The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting lives and ensuring that individuals involved in criminal activities are brought to justice. He also encouraged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains crucial in the fight against crime across the state. The police said investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
