Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup came to an end after a 2–1 defeat to South Africa in the inter-confederation playoff.
The setback followed a quarter-final exit at the 2026 WAFCON, where the Falcons were beaten 1–0 by Cameroon.

Ajibade believes the results should serve as a wake-up call for the squad. She urged the players to improve their preparation, remain focused and recognise that African women’s football has become increasingly competitive.
The captain also stressed that Nigeria must stop taking its reputation for granted and demand higher standards from every player.
Despite the disappointment, Ajibade sees the experience as an opportunity for the Falcons to reflect, rebuild and return stronger.
The journey continues. The Super Falcons must now turn this setback into motivation for the future.
