MAYOR AMAKA OBI FLAGS OFF ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN AWKA-ETITI, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT Residents of Ejighinandu Village in Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area(LGA) have expressed excitement following the commencement of a new road project aimed at improving access, boosting economic activities and enhancing the quality of life in the community. The road construction was officially flagged off on June 6 by the Mayor of Idemili South LGA, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi (Iyom Ife-Abata), alongside members of her administration and key stakeholders. Speaking during the ceremony, Mayor Obi described the project as a significant milestone in the area's development journey, commending Mr. Nnaemeka Olisakwe for partnering with government through the Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) initiative. According to her, the collaboration demonstrates the power of collective responsibility in addressing community needs and delivering sustainable development projects. She noted that the road would provide easier access for farmers, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce to markets and open up greater economic opportunities for residents of Awka-Etiti and surrounding communities. "This project goes beyond constructing a road. It is about improving livelihoods, creating opportunities and connecting people to economic activities that will enhance their well-being," she said. The Mayor stressed that quality road infrastructure remains critical to rural and urban development, as it promotes commerce, eases transportation challenges and attracts investment. She applauded individuals, community leaders and stakeholders who have continued to partner with government in advancing development initiatives across Idemili South, describing the PPCP model as one of the most effective strategies for accelerating progress at the grassroots. Mayor Obi explained that improved road networks would help reduce post-harvest losses, lower transportation costs for farmers and provide direct access to larger markets within and outside the LGA. She assured residents that the council would continue to monitor the project closely to ensure that it meets approved standards and is completed within schedule. Reaffirming her administration's commitment to people-oriented governance, Mayor Obi pledged to sustain partnerships with well-meaning individuals and communities to deliver impactful infrastructure projects that will make Idemili South more prosperous, accessible and economically vibrant. Many residents who attended the flag-off expressed optimism that the road project would transform transportation within the area, stimulate local commerce, attract investments and improve everyday life for the people. The event attracted top government officials and community leaders, including the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Evaristus Ofido; the Head of Department, Works; the President-General of Awka-Etiti, Chief Emeka Ezeoke, Chief Ezedinairu, councillors, ward executives; and other stakeholders.
