The Anambra State Government has commenced the training and certification of 50 master trainers for the ongoing 1,000 Youth and Women Skills Acquisition Programme in Idemili South Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, said the state government has introduced quality standards for all public skills acquisition and empowerment programmes to ensure participants receive globally competitive training.

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Engr. Tony Omatah, the commissioner spoke at the master trainers’ capacity-building programme held in Ojoto under the state’s 1Youth, 2Skills Plus Initiative.

He urged individuals, organisations and corporate bodies to partner with the state government in expanding access to skills training and entrepreneurship, in line with Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra the entrepreneurship and logistics hub of West Africa.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi, said the current programme would increase the number of beneficiaries of her administration’s skills acquisition initiative to 3,000.

She noted that the programme complements the Anambra State Government’s 1Youth, 2Skills Plus Solution Initiative by providing more young people and women with practical vocational skills.

Also speaking, the Deputy Leader of the Idemili South Congress of Councillors, Hon. Valentine Mbadugha, said the programme is community-based, with training centres spread across the seven communities in the local government area. He commended Governor Soludo and the state government for providing the technical support for the initiative.

The 50 master trainers are expected to receive their trade certification after completing a virtual examination, the date of which will be announced later.
