NSCDC Arrests Suspected Telecommunication Mast Vandal in Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of vandalising a telecommunication mast and stealing equipment belonging to a telecommunications service provider.

The suspect, identified as Nweke Wisdom, a native of Izzi South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was arrested on Thursday at Esther Obiakor Estate, Agu-Awka, following a distress call about the presence of a suspected vandal at the mast.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the NSCDC, Anambra State Command, Edwin Okadigbo.

According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended at about 7:20 a.m. and subsequently taken to the NSCDC State Headquarters in Awka for questioning and further investigation.

Items believed to have been removed from the mast installation, including DC and armoured cables, were reportedly recovered from the suspect.

The NSCDC said preliminary investigations indicated that Wisdom allegedly specialised in vandalising telecommunication masts and removing valuable equipment from the installations.

The statement added that the suspect had made what the command described as useful confessions and would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure across the state, while warning individuals involved in vandalism to desist from such activities or face the consequences of the law.

The NSCDC also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation is essential to safeguarding critical infrastructure and improving security in Anambra State.
